“You guys have opened the door to me and I want to see how far I can go.”
Julie suffered a loss and took a step back to decide her next steps. “I was terrified to lose my husband, turn 50, and figure out what I was going to do.” She knew she wanted to do 50 strong, and she did.
While donating some items she became more aware of the programs offered at Goodwill. She went on the website to browse the programs and find which would be the best fit. Familiar with construction and the trades from her husband’s businesses, she thought the Environmental Training Program might be the right fit to launch her career. “I don’t want a dead end job, I want a career,” Julie said. She stepped into an orientation to learn more about the program and never looked back.
Although the program was challenging, she stuck to it. “I woke up at four in the morning and studied before school, I went to school, and then I studied after school,” Julie remembered. She knew the importance of showing up to class and didn’t miss one day saying “you’re going to invest in me, I’ll give you six weeks and see where it takes me.” She also attributes her success in the class to her fellow classmates, saying “on your break times you get together with your classmates and help each other where you need it.”
Julie’s new certifications and experience have already landed her several job offers and a career pathway to success. “
