Two years ago, Deborah was homeless, battling drug addiction and had lost custody of her children to Child Protective Services. Then she found Goodwill’s Culinary Training program. With the determination to change her life and the support of Goodwill staff, Deborah not only excelled in the program but was able to get sober and secure housing.
After graduating in March of 2019, Deborah landed a full-time position at Macaluso’s restaurant in Tacoma as a sauté cook. Today, her three children are back home with her and Deborah feels like a mom with a purpose. She has her pride back and is pleased how proud her children are of her accomplishments. She is thankful for Goodwill and all the services she received.
“The culinary skills team at Goodwill really cares about every student,” said Deborah. “I always felt supported and the program gave me a purpose. It changed my life.”
