Many young people who’ve been involved with the justice system are looking for a second chance at life. However, justice-involved youth face many challenges during their transition back into society, including securing employment. The Washington State Department of Employment Security reports that almost one-half of youth with criminal records are unemployed.
At Goodwill, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, work, and thrive. That’s why we are offering the LifeLaunch: GO program to help youth and young adults end their justice involvement through the power of work. The program (offered in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration) provides rewarding and engaging paid work experiences that can lead to employment and real careers. It also ensures all participants receive the support they need to be successful in the workplace and beyond, including violence prevention, conflict resolution, education and occupational skills, job search and placement, and more.
LifeLaunch: GO is based on the understanding that employment significantly reduces the probability that someone will recidivate due to three main factors:
- The ability to earn an income
- A structured schedule
- Workplace norms
Together, we can empower justice-involved youth to build brighter futures.
